MOMENTS

NEW CD

Phenomenal Virtuosity

Cellist Aleksander Simić releases debut CD.

Long anticipated, the time has finally come: the highly gifted and multiple award-winning Carinthian cellist Aleksander Simić has released his debut CD, Moments, together with Latvian pianist Baiba Osina. The project was made possible by the “Althofner Meisterklassen” (AM), which, in partnership with the recording studio “MSc Media,” annually supports outstanding young musicians with a professional recording production.

Simić did not make the repertoire selection lightly, as the works place the highest demands on the duo: Shostakovich’s Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor, Op. 40; Poulenc’s Cello Sonata; and above all the virtuoso showpiece, David Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody, Op. 68, in which Simić dazzles with breathtaking, fiendishly difficult runs.

In all of these works, he performs with a warm, captivatingly beautiful tone, exceptional purity, and profound emotional depth. In Baiba Osina, he has found a kindred artistic partner whose playing is equally superb. The compositions from different eras are interpreted with stylistic assurance and sensitivity, while also conveying powerful drama and a rich palette of colors.
